How many children were identified as abused by the Missouri Department of Social Services?  5,854 Incorrect

The number of Missouri children who were identified as abused in 2001 was 11,317. There was a slight increase in the number of children who were identified compared to 2000. In most cases the abuse to children found to be neglect (about 51%). This means that parents or other caretakers failed to provide the basic necessities of living for these children such food, shelter, education, medical care and so forth. Physical abuse was found in 25% of the cases and sexual maltreatment was found in 22% of the cases.  Another 7% were victims of emotional maltreatment.
