What do I do if I'm a victim of identity fraud?
If someone is using your identity, do the following things:
- Contact the fraud departments of each of the three
major credit bureaus and report that your identity has
been stolen. Put a "fraud alert" on your account and
that no new credit be granted without your permission.
- Contact the security departments of the appropriate
creditors or financial institutions for any accounts
that have been fraudulently accessed or opened.
- Put passwords (not your mother's maiden name) on
accounts.
- File a report with your local police department. Get a copy of the report for your records.
