I have made a large batch of mincemeat for the holiday season. Is it safe to store it in a crock in the cupboard?

No. Mincemeat is a "potentially dangerous" food and if not used immediately in pies, it must either be:

  • Refrigerated and used within one to two days;      
  • Packed in moisture, vapor-proof containers and frozen for up to one month; or,      
  • It can be canned using the recipe for Festive Mincemeat Pie Filling from the "Complete Guide to Home Canning," Ag Information Bulletin No. 539, which is available on the National Center for Home Food Preservation website.
