Can coffee cans with plastic lids be used for freezing foods?

Coffee cans are not recommended freezer containers because they are not moisture-vapor-proof. There may also be some chemical reactions from metal coming in contact with food, particularly acid foods like fruits. In addition, food frozen in coffee cans may absorb the coffee odor. Coffee cans may be used for rigidity in stacking by first placing a moisture-vapor-resistant bag in the can for a lining and then filling. Use a twister on the bag and place the plastic lid on the can.
