Can I use my oven to dry foods?


You can use your kitchen oven to dry foods. See GH 1562 "Drying Foods" for specific directions. An oven is a practical way to experiment with food drying, however, it is not recommended for continued use because ovens use more energy than food dehydrators. Also, it is difficult to maintain a low temperature in ovens and food may scorch.
