What causes pickling liquid to look cloudy?


Anti-caking ingredients in table salt may make pickling liquid cloudy. That is why pure granulated (canning or pickling) salt should be used when making pickles. In fermented pickles, yeast development during fermentation causes cloudiness. Cloudy liquid may be a sign of spoilage. Before using the pickles, examine them for other signs of spoilage--for example, spurting liquid, mold, off odor, mushiness, slipperiness. If there is any indication of spoilage, throw the pickles out.
