How Do You Pack Up Your Winter Wardrobe Safely?

As warmer weather approaches, it's time to think about storing those winter clothes safely. Garments should be washed or drycleaned prior to storage. Many insects, especially moths, thrive on greasy food stains. Clothes that have not been cleaned may have "invisible" stains. Do not starch and press items before storing them - starch can serve as food for some insects.

Hang coats and heavy suits on padded or wooden hangers. Fold knits and sweaters flat with layers of acid-free tissue paper between the fold to prevent crease lines and discoloration.

Store items in a cool, well-ventilated area, away from artificial or natural light. Avoid plastic bags -they can trap moisture which can cause mildew.
