Is running the best form of exercise?
Each type of aerobic exercise (i.e. cycling, swimming, aerobics, running, walking, basketball, etc.) has various benefits and risks. Running is a great form of aerobic exercise that burns a lot of calories. It has also been linked with numerous cardiovascular benefits. However, there truly is no best aerobic exercise. As long as your heart rate remains elevated for a period of time almost any type of activity will do. In addition, running is often too advanced for many people, especially for those who are just beginning an exercise program. Walking is usually more appropriate for a beginner or for someone that has knee or joint problems. The key is to find something that you enjoy and to stick with it!
