I'm having problems baking bread.  Why does it have an excessive break on the side?

If you your homemade bread has an excessive break on the side, it may be due to one of the following reasons:

  • oven too hot;
  • insufficient rising;
  • improper shaping; or
  • size of loaf too large for pan.
